The Sturdy Girl story

A longtime runner and exercise enthusiast, Hilary Heath, Founder of Sturdy Girl Sports, got her breasts augmented in 2005 and discovered that large-cup sports bras were uncomfortable and not very pretty. Finding the perfect large-cup sports bra turned into an all-consuming passion for Hilary, who decided to depart a career in high tech to develop her own line of fashion-inspired, maximum-support sports bras for whom she brands the sturdy girl.

Sturdy girls embrace the body and mind that come with being fit. Sturdy girls run, play ball sports, ride horses, do yoga, cycle, and ski (among other things), which means they don't get blown down in the wind; they fly on the current. Sturdy Girl Sports bras protect larger breasts from the wear and tear of determined endeavors while looking spectacular.

How we got here: Hilary deconstructed an assortment of sports bras and lingerie bras to learn how they were made. She sketched out her own designs using the features from the different bras that she felt worked, changing the features she didn't like or didn't work to her satisfaction.  She then took her newly created bra designs, along with her list of things to solve for (nipple protrusion!) to industry experts and created a team.  The team sourced amazing performance fabrics and developed the technical patterns required for production. The mid-layer support architecture worked so well that Hilary decided to file a patent on it. Each bra in the Sturdy Girl collection utilizes the same patent-pending mid-layer power mesh structure that greatly minimizes bounce and provides a smooth breast appearance (no headlights!) during high-impact exercise. By combining compression, encapsulation and suspension, Sturdy Girl Sports bras provide superior motion control while avoiding the "uniboob" effect. It was important to Hilary that her sports bras both performed well and looked beautiful so they could be worn without covering up. The first offering includes stylish leopard and snake prints with the Sturdy Girl name embedded randomly in the print itself. This is Hilary's way of showing you that her prints are custom developed. Hilary hopes you enjoy wearing these beautiful high-performance bras as much as she does.
